Roma 101 - Class In Session

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

Hey Ya’ll-

I wanted to share this past week with everyone because it was truly special. Not only was I able to take in some serious Roma sites, culture and receive a real life history lesson I was able to spend quality time with some very special friends who made the journey out from So. Cal (actually they were just in Cairo). Ballers…

I took charge of the Camera (aka - Pater Parker style) and captured a day in the life of being a real tourist. Check out the pics of my close friends Rebecca, Russell, Rex and Devon hanging with my brother Terence and Mom’s. Side note, Rex and Devon hoop for So. Cal Motion (Team Jennings) and they can go.

We hit a few landmark spots (Roman Forum, Circus Maximus, Spanish Steps, Inside the Roman Colosseum, Inside the Vatican Museum and 208 Palazzo Navona one of the largest squares in Rome).

When In Rome Sometimes I like To Take In The Culture…

(WASHINGTON, D.C. — April 16, 2009) Brandon Jennings, a 19-year-old American professional basketball player for Lottomatica Roma in Italy’s Lega A1 Euroleague, will donate $50,000 to the National Italian American Foundation’s (NIAF)/Abruzzo Relief Fund. Immediately following the news of the earthquake, the Foundation established a special NIAF/Abruzzo Relief Fund to help the victims and their families who perished from the earthquake in the town of L’Aquila and other small towns in central Italy in the region of Abruzzo.

”After living in Rome this year, my family has found a second home.  When I heard about the devastation of the earthquake I knew I had to do something,” Jennings said. “Growing up in Southern California, I am no stranger to earthquakes and after seeing on television and on the internet how many people died and how many families lost everything, I wanted to do my part,” Jennings added.

“It’s extraordinary to see a young man who is new to Italy respond so quickly and reach out with such a generous donation to make a difference in the lives of so many of those families that are suffering from the devastating earthquake,” NIAF Acting Chairman Jerry Colangelo said.

Jennings forwent college to begin his professional basketball career in Rome, Italy.  He was the 2008 Naismith Male Player of the Year, 2008 Parade Magazine Player of the Year, 2008 EA Sports Player of the Year, 2007-08 MaxPreps National Player of the Year, a 2008 McDonald’s All-American and the 2008 number one ranked high school senior by ESPN.  He attended high school at Oak Hill Academy in Virginia where he averaged 32.7 points, 7.5 assists, 5.1 rebounds and 5.0 steals in his senior season.  A native of Compton, California, Jennings now resides in Rome with his mother Alice Knox and his 13-year-old brother, Terrence Phillips.

Individuals, corporations and foundations who wish to donate to the NIAF/Abruzzo Relief Fund can make their donations online at www.niaf.org/relief. All donations are tax deductible. Every dollar contributed will go directly to the victims. For more information about NIAF’s efforts in L’Aquila and its neighboring towns, visit www.niaf.org/relief  for the latest updates.

New SLAM Magazine Cover “Future Shock”

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

I just received the new issue of SLAM in the mail yesterday, all the way in Rome (Italy) and wow did the crew at SLAM rock it (My 1st Cover of SLAM).  This cover with Ricky Rubio & I looks really hot. It feels like yesterday when Lang (Exec SLAM Editor) made the journey over with K Stone for the Cover Shoot & Game. At the Cover shoot in some Barcelona (Spain) Studio was the 1st time I met Ricky, he’s a great kid as I got to know him a bit during the photo shoot (Dec 10, 2008) the night before we were supposed to play each other in a Euro League game.  What was so cool was how Ricky brought his mom and dad to the shoot (great people & very friendly), we had a few hours to get to know each other. As everyone knows family is a really important force in my life as well, Ricky has some great parents and I was happy to have met them.  I have so much love for the folks at SLAM, they have always been straight up cutting edge and looking out, once again thanks for the love and I will see you guys back in NY soon after my season.

One more thing, I hope Ricky comes out so we can start this journey together…

Oh ya, I can’t forget my girl the great Kelly Kline (www.kellyklinephotography.com) who is the best photog in the industry, thanks for making the trip over and making it all happen. My Mom say’s what’s up…

Here is a VIDEO LINK that the SLAM crew put together from their trip over, enjoy and I will speak with you soon. Also, to checkout the cover go to www.slamonline.com
