Who’s Your Fave 5 Point Guards Of All-Time???
The NBA Playoff’s are in full swing, so many great PG’s on display. This got me thinking who are my Fave 5 Pg’s of all time are (see below). The question is, who are your Fave 5 Point Guard’s of All-Time and why?
Here are mine in no particular order:
1. Magic Johnson 2. Jason Kidd 3. John Stockton 4. Steve Nash 5. Jerry West

I’ve been watching basketball for 20 years now. I’m only listing players I’ve SEEN play.
1. Magic Johnson - The only PG who ever won in the NBA with a playground style. A triple double machine.
2. Jason Kidd - A triple double waiting to happen. One of the most incredible passers ever. Makes everyone on his team look better than they really are (I’m talking to YOU Mikki Moore, Vince Carter, Richard Jefferson, Kenyon Martin).
3. Mark Jackson - He was fat, slow, couldn’t run, couldn’t jump, couldn’t shoot, but still ended up second on the all time assist list. Plus I love the helicoptor and the shimmie!!
4. Gary Payton - The Glove was the best 2 way PG I’ve ever seen. Big, strong, and fearless. Played the game with a nasty streak. Great rebounder.
5. Derrick Rose - This cat’s gonna be special. He’s a freak athlete. He’s so strong he’s able to overpower other PGs (ask Darren Collison), finish strong while absorbing contact, but still quick enough to get past anyone (Ask Stephon Marbury). Like the other 4 guys on my list, he’s always helping out on the boards (all the great PGs seem to do that; even Chris Paul who’s barely 6 feet).
1. magic johnson
2. jason williams (white chocolate)
3. chris paul
4. derrick rose
5. probably you ;)
I have the same as you, except that I would switch Jason Kidd with John Stockton and Jerry West with Steve Nash.
1)Magic
2)John Stockton
3)Jason Kidd
4)Steve Nash
5)Penny hardaway…Despite all the injuries! But Chris Paul is not far from that 5th place even though he is stille very young.
I consider Jerry West more of a shooting guard…not a true PG
1.magic johnson
2.bob cousy
3.steve nash
4.chris paul
5.brandon jennings
my 6 would be derrick rose
Thinking of best PG. Do you think you are better than Rubio, Wall, Curry, Holiday, Flynn, etc? P.S. I hope I see you in Wolves blue.
1. Magic Johnson
2. Isaiah Thomas
3. Gary Payton
4. Brandon Jennings (I know its a high ranking but theres not many players with the style of play I like on the court playin PG)
5. Chris Paul
I’m choosing to go a different route…First, I picked the ones that I actually had the chance of watching. I didn’t just wanna pick the PG that were NBA greats - some of my favorites had OK careers or didn’t do that well - but still, they are my favorites - in no particular order…
1. Steve Logan, Cincy Bearcats - This cat did damage in college with really not much support even in the NCAA tourney…crazy nice senior season where he was an All-American…loved watching him slice and dice fools…really patient in his game…one of the smoothest games for a PG…heard he was a good dude too with community involvement, etc…
2. Chris Paul, Wake Forest - Nothing needs to be said…this cat is SICK…
3. Jason Gardner/Jarryd Bayless - I had to put them together because I would have 6 PGs…LOVE MY WILDCAT Ballers….Those who haven’t seen Jason Gardner play, missed out. And those, myself included who watched Jarryd in AZ and now in Portland (rep 503) are in for a treat…I got seats almost on the floor and the dude has some serious SERIOUS GAME..way more than Hasbro and Parker Brothers put together!!!
4. Nate Robinson, WA Huskies and Utah Jazz - didn’t really appreciate his game in college but he is a BEAST in NBA…given his size, he is just ridiculous with his game…hops for days, actually for years!!!
5. Chauncey Billups, U of Colorado in college and now Denver Nuggets - If I owned an NBA team and had a shot of having this guys run my squad…I’d do it in a half second…the game just comes easy for him…or seems like it…really cool cat too, does a lot in community and you never hear bad sh*t about him…
On a different note…where can I snag your Roma jersey man…we got a crazy following here for you…all of my boys been looking for that Jersey or even those beast of AU shoes…if you can help us out or direct us on where we can get your stuff - that be way tight…
Blessings B…whatever team drafts you is gonna get a great guard…all these shmucks talk about your stats overseas but they don’t understand that the Euro game is very different, INCREDIBLY MORE OF A TEAM GAME - I guess getting 5-7 steals a game is not enough :)…
1. Earvin “Magic” Johnson
2. John Stockton
3. Gary Payton
4. Steve Nash
5. Chris Paul
I add the space because behind Magic and John is a whole different league, “B” league if you will, although n disrespect.
*. LeBron James (more like a point forward but whatever). Otherwise he would be #1 on my list.
1. Isiah Thomas
2. John Stockton
3. Jason Kidd
4. Magic Johnson
5. Deron Williams (I consider him better than CP3 who can do whatever he wants in Byron Scott’s scheme. Deron doesn’t have the kind of freedom with Sloan IMO).
Special mention to Ricky Rubio and Brandon Jennings coming up in the top 10 maybe?
Yo Brandon what’s your take on this? This kid’s got you beat. Forget college, he’s skipping his senior year in HIGH SCHOOL to go play in Europe.

SAN DIEGO — Jeremy Tyler, a 6-foot-11 high school junior whom some consider the best American big man since Greg Oden, says he will be taking a new path to the N.B.A. He has left San Diego High School and said this week that he would skip his senior year to play professionally in Europe.
Tyler, 17, would become the first United States-born player to leave high school early to play professionally overseas. He is expected to return in two years, when he is projected to be a top pick, if not the No. 1 pick, in the 2011 N.B.A. draft.
Tyler, who had orally committed to play for Rick Pitino at Louisville, has yet to sign with an agent or a professional team. His likely destination is Spain, though teams from other European leagues have shown interest. A spokesman for Louisville said the university could not comment about Tyler.
“Nowadays people look to college for more off-the-court stuff versus being in the gym and getting better,” Tyler said. “If you’re really focused on getting better, you go play pro somewhere. Pro guys will get you way better than playing against college guys.”
His decision is perhaps the most important one since Kevin Garnett jumped straight to the N.B.A. from high school in 1995. Garnett was the No. 5 pick in the N.B.A. draft and ushered in a generation of preps-to-pros stars like Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Dwight Howard. A minimum-age rule passed for the 2006 draft cut off that route, essentially forcing players to spend at least one year in college.
But Brandon Jennings, a point guard from Los Angeles, became the first player to graduate from high school, skip college and play professionally in Europe. (Whether Jennings would have qualified academically to play at Arizona, where he had signed a letter of intent, is unknown.) He is in his first season with Lottomatica Virtus Roma in Italy and is projected as a high pick in the N.B.A. draft in June.
Tyler took Jennings’s path and added a compelling twist, perhaps opening the door for other elite high school basketball players to follow.
Sonny Vaccaro, a former sneaker company executive, orchestrated Jennings’s move and has guided Tyler and his family through the process.
“It’s significant because it shows the curiosity for the American player just refusing to accept what he’s told he has to do,” Vaccaro said. “We’re getting closer to the European reality of a professional at a young age. Basically, Jeremy Tyler is saying, ‘Why do I have to go to high school?’ ”
Vaccaro said he was unsure how much money Tyler would make, though it will most likely be less than the $1.2 million Jennings made in a combination of salary and endorsements this season. Vaccaro said Tyler would make a six-figure salary, noting that the economic crisis in Europe could hurt his earnings.
Vaccaro made his name by signing Michael Jordan to Nike in the mid-1980s and has advised numerous elite players over the years. “I believe he’ll be a 10-time All-Star with his ability,” Vaccaro said of Tyler.
For now, Tyler said he was working out eight to nine hours a day at local gyms and schools and spending two and a half hours a day to get his high school diploma online. He said he had his “ups and downs” in the classroom but was on track to qualify academically to play in college.
Tyler said his game stagnated by playing high school basketball here and he was frustrated by the rules of the California Interscholastic Federation and the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
He averaged 28.7 points during a tumultuous junior season in which his team went 15-11. Two of his coaches were fired in part because of their roles in trying to recruit three star players to complement Tyler. Kenny Roy, the former head coach, denied any wrongdoing.
But the three transfers were ruled ineligible, leaving Tyler the centerpiece of a team whose next biggest player was 6-2.
“It was boring and I wasn’t getting better,” Tyler said. “Each game was the same thing. I was getting triple-teamed and getting hacked. After each game I’d have scratches and bruises up and down my arms from getting triple-teamed. It just wasn’t for me.”
Spain is the most likely option for him because of the structure of its basketball league. Vaccaro said Tyler could shuttle between his professional team and its development squad for 18-year-olds. So if Tyler, who turns 18 in June, struggles early against professional men, he will be able to play and practice with the younger team.
Tyler, who was raised primarily by his father, James, and his uncle, Maurice, will move to Europe with his older brother, James. A rotation of relatives plans to visit. Tyler’s father said he had reservations at first about sending his son overseas, knowing there would be a strong reaction in the community.
“You know what? It’s just a job,” the elder James Tyler said. “He gets a chance to work the job of his dreams and have fun doing it. There’s kids leaving to go to Iraq at age 18. They took a job to serve their country. He’s going to play ball.”
Along the way, Tyler may just become a trailblazer for other high school basketball prodigies.
“This is what I want to do,” he said. “It will help me get better and grow up.”
I’m only gonna comment on players that I’ve seen their whole career
1. Jason Kidd - Eyes in the back of his head and single-handedly resurrected the NJ Nets as a franchise.
2. Gary Payton - I grew up watching the 90’s Knicks so I LOVE D. There was a reason he was called “The Glove”.
3. Magic Johnson - I only watched the tail end of his career (88-92) but what I saw was amazing.
4. Tim Hardaway - As much as I hated him and Alonzo Mourning you HAD to respect his crossover and his rainbow 3.
5. Chris Paul - the most complete PG in the NBA today (Defense, Rebounding, Assists, Scoring) He needs some help in NO to win a title though.
Honorable Mention (Stephon Marbury - So much talent, so little common sense)
BTW, whoever mentioned Penny Hardaway as a PG….I assume the subject is PURE PG’s not combo guards.
Penny could play both 1,2, and 3 but his bread and butter was the 2.
1. Chris Paul he dose everthing you want from a point guard .
2. Brandon Jennings He can dunk pass and take over games .
3. Magic Johnson He’s magic .
4. Steve Nash he can shoot pass and go to the bucket any time he wants .
5. Ricky Rubio he’s the next Tony Paker but he’s not better than Young Money Brandon Jennings.
Here we are,
1.Magic Johnson- very big point guard at 6″5″ , but he was nasty.
2. Gary “the Glove” Payton- Best PG defender EVER!!!!!!
3. Mike Bibby- was, na IS the best PG shooter.
4. J- Kidd.- Passes were Insane, IQ is great
5.Tony Parker- Best International PG in the League.. PLUS he got 3 rings
Remember this is my favorite not who I think is the best.
1. Brandon Jennings- Not only has vision but quickness, great ball handling, nice jumpshot, and is very underrated on his athletic talent. Uses the pick and roll well and attracts defenders creating more opprutunites for his teammates. He is so good, I tried to make my game like his.
2. Derrick Rose- Very good slasher and passer. He can get his 28 pts and 14 assists if he wishes. Can make anything happen with his phenomenal athletic ability.
3. Magic Johnson- Brought the point guard position to another level and was amazing……. it’s Magic…. what else do I need to say.
4. Chauncey Billups- Brought Denver to the playoffs. Very nice 3 pt shot. Possibly the best among point guard. Would be great if he had more athletic ability, but love watching him play.
5. CP3- May post a triple double on any given night. Runs the pick and roll very well (probably the best in the NBA running the pick and roll). Very underrated 3 pt shot.
1. Magic Johnson - Any PG that can sub in for C and win a title has to get my vote.
2. John Stockton - Not flash, but got the job done. Loyal the Jazz, also able to defend at a pretty high rate.
3. Steve Nash - The most exciting PG of the early 2000s, has slowed down a bit but can still rack up assists and is still the best shooter at the point guard position.
4. Jason Kidd - Enormous Basketball IQ, once joked about for not having a jump shot but is 9th in All-Time 3 pt fgs made.
5. Chris Paul - Super competitive and will do whatever it is to help his team win, extremely heady.
1.Allen iverson

5. John Stockton
Honorable Mention Team: Steve Nash, Gary “The Glove” Payton, Nate “Tiny” Archibald, Walt “Clyde” Frazier, Isiah Thomas, Lenny Wilkins.
1. Pistol Pete Maravich - Surprised he is only mentioned once before this, one of the greatest basketball movies “The Pistol” was based on this guy. He was simply incredible.
2. Magic - Revolutionized the game, nuff said
3. Chauncey Billups - Hate that his career in Minnesota was sold short, but look what Detroit and Denver did/are doing, he is a professional game changer.
4. Mike Bibby - Team dime, hated him with Sac - Town because he always killed my Wolves.
5a. Steve Nash - Simply amazing
5b. Brandon Jennings, has me excited about the potential of PGs in the L again, can’t wait to see you against Rubio, Rose, Paul, Williams (hopefully along side KLove!)
1. MAGIC JOHNSON- Great passer n he could play any position what more could u ask 4??
2. ALLEN IVERSON- The inventor of the killer crossover nobody can D him up just ask jordan
3. OSCAR ROBERTSON- I went way back with this one Mr. Triple Double himself. Da only player to average a triple double in a season so he had to b on my list.
4.CHRIS PAUL- Best passer in the league today not only dat but he can drop 30 on yea if necessary. At dis he will b an all-time great.
5.JASON KIDD- Hes about 50 years old still ballin in da league. In his prime i wouldnt have been surprised if he got 30 assists in a game hes beast!!
Pistol Pete was the best point guard ever…hands down
I think this list is about right…but anyone who puts Derrick Rose on there…come on, he’s not even there yet. You can’t forget the Big O
